Staffordshire, UK: Abbotsholme School has announced the launch of a groundbreaking Elite Football & Education Programme in collaboration with the Institute of Football (IOF) Academy, set to commence in September 2025. The new initiative offers a dual academic and athletic pathway for students aged 13 to 19, targeting both domestic and international aspirants.

Set within Abbotsholme’s expansive 140-acre campus in Staffordshire, the programme allows students to combine top-tier academic qualifications-GCSEs, A-Levels, or the NCUK Foundation Programme with professional-level football training tailored to individual development.

According to school officials, the curriculum has been designed not just for players aiming for careers on the pitch, but also those looking to enter various aspects of the global sports industry. Participants will have the opportunity to pursue official FA coaching and scouting certifications, opening pathways into sports science, coaching, media, and scouting.

Russ Hullett, co-founder of the IOF Academy and a former coach and scout for prestigious clubs including Manchester United and Aston Villa, commented:

“We’re committed to delivering a professional academy-style experience for every player. This programme is about creating real opportunities—whether you’re dreaming of a career on the field or aiming to thrive in the global sports industry.”

The IOF Mavericks Football Club, based on-site at Abbotsholme, will serve as the home team for enrolled student-athletes. Players will train and compete in a professional, academy-style environment, supported by top-tier infrastructure including a full-size 3G pitch, FIFA-standard natural grass fields, and a high-performance strength and conditioning centre.

Chief International Officer at Abbotsholme, Matthew Hird, emphasized the importance of the partnership:

“We are delighted to partner with IOF, which will enable us to offer an elite level football coaching programme alongside our first-class academic provision. It’s about inspiring young footballers on their journey into futures in sport.”

The IOF Academy, founded in 2007, boasts a strong track record—having helped over 100 players sign with professional clubs and supported more than 1,000 players in securing football scholarships at top global universities, particularly in the United States.

Abbotsholme School assures a holistic experience with EAL (English as an Additional Language) support, full boarding options, and a strong pastoral care system, offering international students a “home away from home” as they develop academically and athletically.
