In a move to assist students whose international education plans have been disrupted, Duolingo has introduced the Duolingo English Test (DET) UK Welcome Project. The initiative aims to guide students particularly from countries such as India and China, towards considering the UK as an alternative study destination for the autumn 2025 intake.

The project focuses on three key actions:

  1. Raising Awareness – Informing current and prospective DET test-takers about study opportunities in the UK.
  2. Collaborating with Recruitment Networks – Working with global recruitment partners to highlight the UK’s openness to international students.
  3. Providing Support – Assisting students in redirecting their study plans to the UK amid ongoing geopolitical and policy uncertainties.

Duolingo has also expanded its Access Program, which provides free language proficiency testing, preparation materials, and practice tests to students facing financial challenges. Partner institutions can request fee waivers to ensure that the DET remains accessible to students from underprivileged backgrounds.

By combining targeted awareness campaigns, institutional partnerships, and financial support, Duolingo aims to offer students viable pathways to pursue their academic goals despite global disruptions.
