Duolingo Launches Language Challenge for International Educators in Australia and New Zealand

Canberra: Duolingo has launched the Duolingo Language Challenge, a 10-week learning competition designed to bring together professionals from Australia and New Zealand’s international education sectors. Running from July 28 to October 6, the challenge aims to celebrate educators and demonstrate how accessible and joyful language learning can be.

The event is powered by the Duolingo English Test (DET) a secure, affordable, and widely accepted English proficiency test that reflects Duolingo’s mission to make world-class learning tools universally available.
Participants who must be staff from CRICOS-registered institutions in Australia or NZQA-approved providers in New Zealand will compete by earning XP (experience points) while learning any language on the Duolingo app, including English.

Personal language goals and team encouragement
Weekly leaderboard updates
Spotlight features and language fun facts
Certificates and prizes, including $8,000 in charity donations made in winners’ names

August 31 – Registration closes
October 6 – Leaderboard locks and winners announced
October 15 – Winners celebrated at the AIEC 2025 Reception in Canberra
By combining individual motivation with community spirit, Duolingo hopes to spotlight the role of educators in the international student journey and promote a lifelong love for language learning.
