A recent study by the Universities of Dundee and Cambridge has flagged concerns about the English proficiency of international students admitted through less traditional language tests such as Duolingo and Oxford Education Group (OIEG) exams. The study found that over 90% of respondents rated these students’ academic literacy as poor, mixed, or varied, suggesting that these alternative tests may not effectively assess the skills needed for success in UK universities.
