NISAU Chair Sanam Arora Joins London Met’s Board as Youngest Independent Governor

Sanam Arora, the founder and chair of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK, has been appointed to the Board of Governors at London Metropolitan University, becoming the youngest independent governor in the university’s history.
Widely respected for her advocacy for international students, Arora is credited with playing a crucial role in the campaign to reinstate the UK Graduate Route visa, which now benefits thousands of Indian and international students pursuing higher education in Britain. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in promoting inclusive, student-centered governance within the UK’s higher education landscape.

Championing International Student Voices
With roots in Delhi and Punjab, Arora brings a rich mix of strategic insight, student advocacy, and financial expertise to the role. In addition to leading NISAU, she serves as a Commissioner on the UK’s International Higher Education Commission and co-leads initiatives such as the India UK Education Conference and the Achievers Honours, which are delivered in partnership with the UK government.
Her appointment to London Met’s board aligns with the university’s commitment to equity and access. Tijs Broeke, Chair of the Board of Governors, noted, “Sanam brings a wealth of experience that aligns with London Met’s mission. Her leadership and advocacy for international students complement our ambition to be a truly global and welcoming university.”

Expertise in Finance and Policy
Professionally, Arora is an investment management consultant advising leading asset managers and financial institutions. Her background in corporate finance and regulatory strategy, combined with over a decade of experience in global markets, brings valuable financial and governance expertise to London Met’s leadership.
A graduate of the London School of Economics (LSE) with a degree in Operational Research, she was awarded the university’s highest honor, the Honorary Studentship. In 2023, Arora was also named one of the 50 Most Influential Voices in Global Education by The PIE and received the PIEoneer Award for her outstanding contributions to the sector.
